Fixed recoverable costs (FRC) are the set amount of legal costs a winning party can recover from a losing party at different stages of the civil litigation. FRC apply to most civil litigation claims in England and Wales valued up to £100,000.

The extension of the FRC regime from 1 October 2023 represents a step change in the civil litigation landscape. It aims to provide greater certainty and control over legal costs, making the legal process more accessible, predictable and proportionate.
