James Ferrin

James qualified in Northern Ireland in 2015 from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, having attended Queens University Belfast for his undergraduate degree. After several years in a criminal defence/ human rights firm, he joined Kennedys in 2021.
James now regularly acts for insurers and self-insured companies in the defence of personal injury claims. He specialises in defence insurance matters, mainly medical malpractice. He would specialise in casualty and professional negligence matters (coverage and defence). He routinely acts in professional negligence claims and product liability claims.
James represents private hospitals in Northern Ireland as well as individual clinicians across an extensive range of disciplines. In addition, he would regularly deal with public and road traffic liability claims, as well as defending employers’ liability claims.
James has an extensive background in criminal litigation and can provide expert advice across a range of areas. He would now routinely deal with historic sexual abuse claims on behalf of Insurers.
Separately, James is an active participant within the Law Society Northern Ireland and Belfast Solicitors Association.
James holds various sporting accolades having played for Glentoran FC in the Northern Irish Premier League.
He holds a GAA Colleges’ All Star award in Gaelic and an All- Ireland Water Polo medal after graduating from St. Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar School in Belfast.
Thereafter, he attended Queens University to study law to which he was awarded a Half Blues medal for sporting excellence.
