Jemima has worked at Kennedys for over 5 years, and has close to a decade of experience in the provision of advice and the defence of complex claims (financial lines, property and casualty) across all Australian jurisdictions. She has a particular focus on public and product liability claims, professional indemnity claims, and general commercial disputes. She also has extensive experience in claims involving discrimination and abuse claims in the educational sector.

Jemima regularly advises a variety of stakeholders, including insurers, insured’s with large deductibles or self insureds, as well as Defendants pursuing cover under a policy.

Jemima is a strong advocate, and appears regularly in the Local Court, District Court, and Supreme Court of NSW. Jemima has worked for a number of barristers prior to her admission to practice. She provides pro bono assistance to a number of community legal centres across Sydney and has also undertaken work for the Refugee Advice and Casework Service.

Work highlights

  • Defending public liability claims ranging from small claims to catastrophic injuries and property damage for insureds, such as residential and commercial occupiers, construction site contractors, roads and statutory authorities, recreational services providers, and voluntary and not-for-profit associations.
  • Defending hotels, clubs, security providers, theatre and restaurant operators against personal injury and property damage claims, including fire damage and assault claims.
  • Advising and acting for government and independent schools in response to claims of discrimination made in the NSW Anti-discrimination Board, NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Australian Human Rights Commission.
  • Advising and acting for government departments, independent schools and religious institutions in response to claims of abuse (sexual and other abuse).
  • Acting for manufacturers of furniture, bicycles, motor vehicle parts and food in relation to claims for personal injury and property damage.
  • Acting in defence of vibration damage and subsidence claims involving multiple residential and commercial property owners.
