Denise Brosnan is based in our Birmingham office. She has over 25 years’ experience as a defendant personal injury lawyer. She represents insurers, local and blue light authorities in relation to employers and public liability matters. She has a specialist focus on complex and novel claims and which include high profile and sensitive claims, working alongside insurers, in-house legal teams and managers within organisations and specialises in stress, bullying and harassment claims. Her case load includes claims under the Protection from Harassment Act, instructions on behalf of police authorities in claims involving stress related illness and/or PTSD arising out of exposure to trauma and/or harrowing images.
She has also represented a local authority clients in high profile inquests which attract local and national media coverage. All of the work has a common theme in that it requires sensitive handling and the balancing of relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Denise has also spoken at events and delivered bespoke training in conjunction with insurance clients on handling and managing strategy on stress, bullying and harassment cases.

- Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales in 2005.

Work highlights
- Worked on a high value and sensitive stress claim brought by a manager in a local authority following alleged bullying/harassment during the course of her work. The local authority was declared the winning party after the claimant failed to beat a competitive P36 offer
- Represented a local authority in connection with a high profile inquest which attracted local and national media coverage involving a mental health patient who mounted a sustained attack on an innocent member of the public during a psychotic episode causing the victim’s death. Thereafter dealing with civil claims being brought in negligence and/or under the HRA 1998 by the assailant, the family of the deceased and family members of the assailant who are alleged to have experienced nervous shock.
- Instructed by insurers to represent an independent school specialising in pupils with special educational and health needs. A young student tragically took her own life after accessing inappropriate materials relating to suicide whilst surfing the internet during school hours. The case raised a number of issues in relation to access to IT within schools and the adequacy of DfE guidance in terms of regulating this.
- Involved in several sensitive claims involving employees who have tragically taken their own life following alleged difficult meetings with management and claims around work related stress and young mental health patients who fell under the auspice of social services home treatment teams.
