The Legal 500 Latin America 2022: Kennedys ranked in five countries and Miami hub

The Legal 500 Latin America 2022 has once again recognized Kennedys as a leading firm across the region.

In the annual guide to outstanding law firms and lawyers, Kennedys has maintained its top tier ranking for insurance in Peru, alongside Chile, Colombia, Mexico and  Brazil, where we also received notable practice rankings.

We have also received brand new rankings for dispute resolution in Chile and Peru, which supports the firm’s growth and strength in this sector.

In this edition of the guide, Kennedys’ Latin America regional hub in Miami was once again recommended in the ‘City focus: Miami’ section, which distinguishes the importance of Miami as a gateway to Latin America and the firm’s contribution to this market.

With regard to individual accolades, Marco Rivera (Peru) was named within the elite ‘Leading Individuals’ list, with partners Fernando Hurtado de Mendoza (Peru) and Mónica Tocarruncho (Colombia) receiving the accolade of ‘Next Generation Partner’. Alonso Barreda (Peru), Pia Parmar (Chile), and Daniel Silva (Chile) were recognized as ‘Rising Stars’, and a total of 20 lawyers were recommended within the guide.

Regional breakdowns

The Legal 500 described Kennedys’ “fast expanding Latin America practice” in Miami as “leading the insurance and reinsurance market."

Alex Guillamont, who leads Kennedys’ seven-office, 100-lawyer strong Latin American and Caribbean practice from our Miami hub, was reconfirmed as a recommended lawyer for 'City focus: Miami (Miami)'. He was applauded for having “a broad-based practice for insurers and reinsurers including hurricane-related losses, cyber claims and political and trade risks.”

Anna Weiss, the Regional Managing Partner for Kennedys’ Latin American region, was also recognized as a recommended lawyer for 'City focus: Miami (Miami)'. Anna is known for being "a prominent figure in the construction and engineering segment, notably representing insurers and reinsurers on claims and coverage issues, especially CAR/EAR, hurricane damage and property losses."

Legal Director Susana Martinez Cabrera, who is based in Kennedys' Madrid office was also recommended within the guide.

In São Paulo, Partner Fabio Torres who was recommended for his work on 'Insurance (Brazil)' and was praised for being "Highly experienced" and covering "all areas of liability, including D&O, aviation, property, maritime and infrastructure-related claims."

Partners Mario DiemozRadoslav Depolo and Gian Lorenzini, who practice from our Santiago office in Chile were celebrated for assisting with the creation of novel insurance products acting “as the local representative to several foreign reinsurers.”

One market insider values that "Kennedys knows the Chilean market and the insurance business", with another adding that "they are an internationally recognized insurance firm and they have an up-to-date and specialized team in the field."

In addition, Senior Associates Pia Parmar and Daniel Silva both received the accolade ‘Rising Star’ for their work as regulatory specialists within their field.

In Colombia, the team was praised for being “technically brilliant, characterised by [their] timeliness and conceptual depth. [The] partners and associates are respectful, diligent, and timely."

Mónica Tocarruncho Mantilla maintained her ranking as a ‘Next Generation Partner’, and was praised for leading a “strong team in advising insurers, reinsurers and reinsurance brokers, both in Colombia and globally on high-value claims."

In addition, Legal Director Catalina Botero was praised for playing “a key role in the practice and stands out for her work in the construction market.”
