Claims Apprentice 2023: Episode 1 - Meet the teams

Following on from last year’s hugely successful series, the first episode of this, the fourth, series of Claims Apprentice, in association with Insurance Post, has launched and is now available to view below.

In this scene-setting opening episode we meet the six candidates who will be battling to win the 2023 Claims Apprentice, and find out more about them, what they want to get out of the competition and the team names they decide on.

The six candidates are:

  • Ellie Arch, Financial Lines Assistant Claims Adjuster, Allianz Global Corporate Specialty (AGCS)
  • Alasdair Bain, BDMA Tech (Ins), Aviva Insurance Limited
  • Bazzil Boyce, Claims Assistant, North P&I
  • Alan DaBreo, Claims Specialist, Financial Lines and Political & Credit Risks, HDI Global Specialty SE
  • Safa Saeed, Claims Apprentice, Zurich Insurance UK
  • Rebecca Wonnacott, Large Loss Claims Handler, Admiral Group Plc

Involvement in the series, based on the BBC show ‘The Apprentice’, aligns with our commitment to supporting the development of the next generation of claims leaders in the insurance sector. Kennedys partner and UK liability defence and travel team practice head, Claire Mulligan, who is this year’s ‘Alan Sugar’, said "For me I want to understand their motivations – why do they want to be here; how are they going to develop over this journey – because it’s very important to see them growing and learning from this experience. And I want to see them being true to themselves, not inventing a persona, trying to be the biggest or the brashest. I want to understand who is actually going to get there using their own talent and working as part of a team.”

Alongside Claire, who the six candidates will be aiming to impress, will be a trusted team of advisers who have mentored the teams and will aide her in ultimately reaching a decision on this year’s winner. They are Partners Mark WalshJames Stevens and Sandip Sidhu, Senior Associate Madeleine Bertrand, Investigation Services Manager Stephanie Diaz-Smith and Associate Michael Seggie. In addition, Partner Ben Appleton makes a guest appearance on one of the tasks.

The six-episode video series will showcase the ‘apprentices’ completing tasks related to the insurance sector, and is designed to help them in their future careers.

Claims Apprentice, which is designed to unearth, showcase and help young talent working in the claims market, was a new initiative in 2019 and, following the success of that inaugural series, and the follow-ups in 2020 and 2022 is back again this year. Kennedys is very pleased to be supporting this initiative once again.
