Philip is a special counsel based in Kennedys’ Sydney office. Admitted in South Australia, he has over 14 years’ experience practising within various Australian jurisdictions, with an overarching focus on insurance.

Philip regularly advises insurers in relation to both policy coverage and the defence of claims - predominantly in relation to professional indemnity and with a regular focus on industrial situations.

Philip also has an extensive background in compensation and liability claims, and recovery actions.  This experience has seen him represent private insurers, as well as State and Territory Governments – bolstering his provision of holistic, commercially-sound advice to insurer clients.

At present, Philip is heavily involved in acting for an international insurer in multiple claims under trade credit insurance policies, where fraudulent trading in commodities is suspected.

  • Acting for a large construction company in the successful defence of an appeal in the South Australian Court of Appeal concerning the application of proportionate liability in an arbitration.
  • Acting for a regional local body in a dispute over a multi-million-dollar road development in the Northern Territory, in which cyclone conditions had caused significant delay costs.
  • Acting for a national insurer in the successful resolution of a catastrophic injury claim resulting from a helicopter accident in which media coverage and reputational damage were key concerns.
  • Advising national insurers and State and Territory governments in relation to compensation and liability claims.
