Ian is a Partner in Kennedys’ Birmingham office. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1999 and joined Kennedys in 2016.

Ian’s client base includes motor and general insurers, self-insured corporate entities (including those with large fleets), claims handling companies (national), third party administrators, brokers and multinational insurers.

He has been advising the motor insurance industry for 20 years on a wide variety of pre and post-litigation strategies and on the analysis of claimant representative’s behaviour and tactics.

Ian handles a broad selection of complex, large and catastrophic loss motor cases and has extensive experience in complex and high value credit hire cases, as well as an in-depth and practical knowledge of claimant alternative business structures.

He advises and represents individuals facing motoring prosecutions in the magistrates’ and Crown Court and handles representation at inquests. He has been involved in test and strategic litigation.

Ian has been instructed to advise insurers on their potential liability arising from the use of motor vehicles in terrorist attacks.

He frequently presents at insurance conferences on a variety of motor related and procedural issues. Additionally, he is involved in drafting, presenting and assisting in bespoke training schemes for a variety of clients. Ian is an author of Kennedys’ Claims Handling Law and Practice Guide, the fourth edition of which was published in February 2021

Ian is a core member of the team developing the Kennedys IQ Platform and has led the way in the development of our online claims litigation tool, Defence Lawyer (formerly known as KLAiM). He is also heavily involved in the advancement of our KASE claims management system.

Ian is a qualified mediator and a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).
