Kennedys strengthens LATAM links with addition of two associate offices

We have formed new associate offices in Bolivia and Ecuador, strengthening our presence across Latin America.

In Bolivia, our firm is forming an association with López del Solar and in Ecuador with Tobar ZVS. They become the fifth and sixth associations in the region, adding to the seven Latin American Kennedys offices.

In operation for over 40 years, López del Solar has 15 staff and counts many of the region’s insurance and reinsurance companies as clients, providing corporate law, risk management and claims handling services. It is a strategic partner to many insurers claims departments.

The firm is led by insurance specialist Alfonso López del Solar, who in addition to his wide experience in advising insurance and reinsurance companies, serves as Honorary Consul of Belgium.

Alfonso López del Solar says: “Bolivia has a growing insurance market, and we see real opportunities to work more closely with Kennedys to deliver services for clients both in Bolivia and across the region.”

Tobar ZVS has eight partners and 30 lawyers working across several corporate areas. Its highly regarded insurance unit is led by partner Rene De Sola. The department has more than 18 years’ experience in the insurance sector offering the full range of insurance services including following major disasters in Ecuador and other countries across the region. It also has experience in corporate services, such as M&A with insurance companies.

Bernardo Tobar, managing partner of Tobar ZVS says: “Forming an association with Kennedys strengthens our insurance practice and our ability to service our international client base. We are looking forward to combining our expertise with the Kennedys team to serve the many shared clients we have.”

Kennedys’ Miami office serves as the hub for the firm’s Latin American presence. It was the first global insurance law firm to open an office in Miami in 2010, which has paved the way for its expansion in the region.

We have the largest reach of any insurance law firm with offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, and six associate offices in Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Panama, Puerto Rico, and now Bolivia and Ecuador.

Anna Weiss, regional managing partner for LATAM and Caribbean at Kennedys, says: “I am delighted we have been able to formalise associations with López del Solar and Tobar ZVS, both of which have excellent synergies with Kennedys.”

Alex Guillamont, partner at Kennedys, says: “We continue our expansion in the region with these two new associate offices, with whom we have built a solid relationship serving mutual clients and have a proven record of success after working together for several years.”

Nick Thomas, senior partner for Kennedys says: “We do not waver from our strategic commitment to be where our clients are. Our new associations in Bolivia and Ecuador strengthen our presence across Latin America and allow us to provide our clients with a more complete and global service.”

Our growth continues apace with the firm announcing the opening of an office in Delaware last month, its eighth office in the US and 43rd globally. In the past two years, we have opened new offices in LeedsOmanTel Aviv and Perth as well as moving into new office space in Hong KongManchester and Madrid in response to the evolving hybrid work preferences of lawyers and clients.
