Kennedys hires crime and investigations lawyer to spearhead white collar crime expansion

We are pleased to announce we have appointed white collar crime and investigations specialist, Iskander Fernandez as a partner to our growing corporate and commercial division. He joins from BLM.

With over 15 years’ experience, Iskander acts for a variety of high-net worth individuals and corporate clients across a range of white collar crime proceedings involving allegations of bribery, corruption, fraud, money laundering and tax evasion being brought by the SFO (Serious Fraud Office), CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) or HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs).

Iskander will head our corporate and commercial division’s white collar crime and investigations team based in London, but his work will cross jurisdictions.

He is a member of the Fraud Lawyers’ Association, the Private Prosecutors’ Association, Proceeds of Crime Lawyers’ Association and the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association.

Speaking of his appointment, Iskander Fernandez says: “Kennedys has clearly invested in its corporate and commercial offering so this is a real opportunity to secure large instructions across a truly global network, particularly given the scope of the Bribery Act and the number of foreign companies opening offices in the UK or with existing operations in the UK.”

This latest hire is another step in our long-term plan to strengthen the non-insurance litigation side of the business where we are increasing our international commercial disputes and transactional/advisory portfolio and targeting greater technology, data protection and corporate insurance work.

Headed by partner Ben Aram, our global corporate and commercial team comprises more than 100 lawyers located across the UK, EMEA, the US & Bermuda, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The team already works with insurers and financial institutions, public authorities and large and mid-sized corporates, delivering commercial dispute resolution, real estate and construction, employment and transactions & advisory services.

Ben Aram, who also sits on the firm’s global board, says: “Kennedys is always open to new opportunities that will benefit our clients. I welcome Iskander to our growing team."

His arrival presents the opportunity to develop our white collar crime defence expertise, which will be complementary to a number of our product groups including insolvency, corporate, commercial litigation and financial and political risks. It’s also an area of growing interest and relevance to our insurer and corporate (insured) clients alike.”

Iskander’s appointment follows the arrival last month of one of Israel’s most respected corporate lawyers, Ilana Bar, who joined the corporate and commercial team after more than 20 years as General Counsel of Israeli insurance group Midgal. In the last year, the team has also recruited Tobin Ashby from Pinsent Masons and Amanda Hanmore from Trowers & Hamlins.
