Kennedys continues US and Caribbean expansion with hire of six lawyers in Miami and Philadelphia

Kennedys is targeting US expansion with the addition of three new partners in two of its East Coast offices. Eric Hiller is joining the firm’s Miami office, bringing with him three associates, while Joshua Mooney and Sean Mahoney join the Philadelphia office.

Eric Hiller, joins Kennedys Miami office from Clyde & Co. and represents both US and international insurers in a wide range of insurance coverage matters and has a significant insurance litigation practice spanning the States, the Virgin Islands and the rest of the Caribbean.

He advises on insurance matters covering general liability, public liability, employers’ liability, D&O policies, construction, inland marine, business interruption and first-party property.

Eric is one of a handful of international lawyers with both experience and local knowledge of the Virgin Islands having been admitted to practice in the territory ten years ago. He has since built up a substantial caseload of litigation matters. His experience will enable Kennedys to expand further across the Caribbean. Kennedys has been servicing the region from its Miami hub office, and with its associate offices in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Joining Eric in the Miami office are associates Justin King, Aaron Konstam and Benjamin Muschel.

Joshua Mooney and Sean Mahoney both join Kennedys Philadelphia office from White and Williams.

Josh’s practice focuses on data privacy and security compliance, incident response, and insurance coverage litigation with special focus in matters involving underlying privacy, cyber, and media liability. His addition greatly enhances the firm’s data privacy and cyber offering in a range of industries.

He advises clients on including insurance companies and insurtech firms, on matters involving data migration, ownership, licensing, implementation of cybersecurity programs, and compliance with such laws as CCPA, New York’s DFS cyber regulations and SHIELD Act, BIPA, HIPAA, GLBA, and GDPR.

Sean Mahoney is a complex commercial insurance coverage trial lawyer with nearly twenty years of experience. Sean has represented a number of large commercial insurers as lead coverage and litigation counsel in matters involving financial lines, D&O, fiduciary liability, employment practices, commercial general, excess and professional liability, errors and omissions, life insurance and reinsurance.

Meg Catalano, US Managing Partner says: “We welcome Eric, Sean, Josh and their teams. All three are key additions for us in the US market. Eric’s experience gives us the opportunity to further grow our Caribbean and Virgin Islands work which is run from Miami. The Virgin Islands is a highly litigious and complex legal market and having specialist expertise in this area will be highly beneficial to our clients.

Josh’s data privacy work is a growing area of work, not just in the US but around the globe, while Sean’s trial experience is second to none. This is a great group of new partners.
