Rodrigo Hayvard

Rodrigo is currently a partner in Kennedys’ Chile and is the head of the office insurance and reinsurance practice group. He qualified in Chile in 2007 and specialises in insurance and reinsurance coverage advice, dispute resolution and regulatory matters and has substantial expertise in cross-border business and international programs.

He has been active in the insurance industry for more than 15 years on various roles, including as General Counsel and Compliance Officer for Portuguese Insurer Fidelidade Chile Business Unit, Associate General Counsel for Zurich Chile Business Unit, and a member of Zurich´s Reinsurance Law Practice Group. He earned his underwriting credentials as a Casualty and Financial Lines Underwriter at Chubb Chile Business Unit and his marine credentials as a Legal Counsel to the Insurance Division of CSAV - Compañía Sudamericana de Vapores S.A. (now Hapag-Lloyd). He previously worked as a Senior Associate with Kennedys Chile office prior to his latest In-House engagement.

In this capacity, he has been involved in a vast array of matters, ranging from coverage advise, complex claims handling to international sanctions compliance in connection with financial lines, casualty, engineering, contractors’ all risks, erection all risks, delay in start-up, business interruption, clinical trials, marine and in the energy sector, particularly renewable energy.  

He is also deeply interested on the Principles of Reinsurance Contract Law (PRICL).

Rodrigo is a member of Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (AIDA), Chile Chapter and a former Editor of AIDA's Chilean Insurance Law Journal, a member of the Selden Society in the UK and of the Chilean Bar Association.

He has written extensively in insurance and reinsurance matters and spoken at numerous engagements on the subject matter, both at the local and international level.

On an academic level, he lectures on the reinsurance and insurance regulation on the International Postgraduate Diploma on Insurance jointly delivered by the Universidad de Los Andes (CL) and the Insurance School (by the Insurance Association of Chile A.G.).

Rodrigo is a native Spanish speaker, is fluent in English, and has a basic command of German and Portuguese.

He is currently working towards requalifying as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
