James Mansell
Profile
James joined Kennedys in November 2021 and is a Legal Director in the London office. He has extensive experience having qualified in England and Wales in 2011 and advises on motor, public liability and employers’ liability claims for catastrophic injuries. He manages cases of the utmost severity including amputations, subtle and severe brain injuries, spinal, multiple severe orthopaedic injuries, severe psychiatric injury and complex regional pain syndrome.
James has a particular specialism in exaggerated and fundamentally dishonest claims having worked for many years in counter fraud. He is also regularly instructed on amputation claims and is a member of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) and has established links with leading professionals within the prosthetics industry. He is also currently working within a team in the high profile sports concussion litigation involving multiple Claimants.
His personal caseload comprises of reserves up to £5 million and he assists partners on cases with reserves up to £20 million at any one time.
James regularly presents to insurer clients on a range of topics associated with complex claims.

- Successfully defended a claim for alleged spinal injury in excess of £500k pleading fundamental dishonesty and recovered costs.
- Settled a claim pleaded at £400k for £85k within 2 months of instruction / proceedings.
- Defended a claim for spinal and subtle brain injury pleaded in excess of £100k raising concerns over the validity of the claim with the Claimant accepting a Part 36 offer for £32k made over 2 years earlier.
- Settled an amputation claim within 18 months of the accident occurring working collaboratively with the Claimant’s Solicitor.
- Settled an amputation claim pleaded at over £10m for less than £3m.
