Having qualified in England and Wales in 2012 Barnabus practiced in insurance litigation in Manchester, which included a nine month secondment with one of the UK’s leading general insurers.

Barnabus moved to Northern Ireland in 2014 and worked for an international law firm in which he specialised in commercial litigation and regulatory advice. This included a wide spectrum of professional negligence matters, with particular focus on financial services (such as the provision of financial advice, mis-selling of investments and pension claims) together with other insurance matters such as broker negligence. He also regularly provided advice to major insurers in respect of policy coverage and assisted with construction disputes.

After a of period working in house as an international regulatory lawyer for the world’s leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, Barnabus joined Kennedys in Belfast in 2022.

Barnabus continues to focus on commercial litigation and, as well as advising on policy coverage, he specialises in defending professional negligence claims against:

Qualifications: 

  • Studied at the University of Liverpool and Chester College of Law between 2005 and 2010.
  • Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales in Dec 2012.
  • Admitted to the Roll of solicitors in Northern Ireland in November 2014.

  • Resolving four high court actions in respect of financial mis-selling in the total sum of £1.2million for a leading financial services network.
  • Representing a leading regional insurance broker following a professional negligence claim in the sum of £1.2million.
  • Representing a local financial planning firm in respect of numerous complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service, together with alleged civil claims in excess of £7 million.
  • Assisting a prominent joint venture company regarding a £1million construction dispute arising from one of the UK's largest and most varied water infrastructure improvement programmes.
  • Resolving a lengthy High Court dispute between a solicitor practice and accountancy form re. alleged professional negligence in the filing of solicitor accounts.
  • Resolving a complex claim against Consulting Engineers regarding the design and installation of commercial ventilation systems, to include a claim for delay damages.
  • Defending a multidisciplinary firm in respect of a professional negligence claim regarding the obtaining of planning permission for a £25million hotel development.
