Profile

Joyce graduated from Durham University in 2013. Upon her return to Singapore, she completed the Singapore Bar Admission Course with distinctions and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2015.

Prior to joining Kennedys' Singapore office in 2019, Joyce practiced at Withers KhattarWong LLP and specialised in the area of defence litigation and advisory work in motor and general insurance, with notable success in the defence of causation of injuries in low-impact motor accident whiplash claims.

As a Senior Associate in Kennedys, Joyce's expertise continues to be in the field of motor and general insurance, which extends to subrogation recovery, work injury, occupier's liability, public liability, and fire and water damage claims.

Work highlights

  • Acting for NTUC Income to resist the High Court trial on quantum whereby the injured Plaintiff claimant proceeded against the absent Defendant in relation to an astronomical claim for damages arising from a road traffic collision.
  • Represented an insurer in the High Court and Appellate Division of the High Court, in defence of a claim for personal injury and resulting loss quantified in excess of SGD 3.5 million and successfully reducing the quantum awarded to a sum below SGD 400,000.
  • Represented an insured in defence of a claim for personal injury and resulting loss quantified approximately at SGD 800,000 and successfully reducing the quantum awarded to a sum below SGD 60,000.
  • Successfully defended and dismissing multiple cases wherein exaggerated claims were made in the State Courts for personal injuries allegedly suffered in low impact road traffic accidents.
