Louis went to Cardiff University to study law where he obtained a First-class Honours Degree and went on to achieve a distinction for the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

He started at Kennedys in 2011 as a trainee and qualified in 2013. He is now a Partner in the Property, Energy and Construction Team.

Louis specialises in all forms of property, energy and construction dispute resolution, both domestically and internationally, including at court, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and Dispute Adjudication Board.

He has extensive experience of dealing with construction, engineering, property and energy related claims, including operational and contractors’/erectors’ (CAR/EAR) all risks, advance loss of profit, delay in start-up, business interruption, CPA Model Conditions, professional negligence, product liability and party wall matters, to contractual issues including pay less notices,  Liquidated Damages/extension of time and final account disputes. His clients include reinsurers and insurers, property owners, contractors, professional consultants, suppliers, sub-contractors and developers, as well as their funders.

Louis is presently acting on matters in the UK, Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia.  

In 2012, Louis was seconded to AIG’s claims department, and was responsible for the management for large and varied property damage claims.

In 2015, Louis was seconded to Carillion’s construction legal department, and was involved in various contentious and non-contentious matters in areas such as rail, highways, buildings and structures.

He is a member of the Society of Construction Law (SCL) and Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

Work highlights

  • Acted for Insurers on an owner-controlled insurance programme in relation to the largest infrastructure construction project in Europe and advising insurers with regard to complex construction claims by the insureds.
  • Acting for a London-based firm of architects claiming damages relating to the design of various development phases for a Kuwaiti listed property developer on a building project in Dubai – DIAC and enforcement proceedings in the Dubai Courts.
  • Representing an international construction company in the defence of claims by the DBFO Companies relating to various PFI projects, specifically in relation to the design and construction of the mechanical and engineering services at a number of hospitals and schools around the UK.
  • Acting for contractors, designers, insurers and reinsurers in relation to major civil engineering projects in UK including the A55, A4146 Stoke Hammond to Linslade Western Bypass, M40, A249 and internationally, including the N25 New Ross Bypass (Ireland), the Bidbid to Sur motorway (Oman) and the airport runway and taxiways at Doha Airport (Qatar).
