James is a legal director based in the London Liability team. He qualified as a solicitor in 2011 and joined Kennedys in 2022.

James handles a broad spectrum of high value personal injury claims and is a technical expert in casualty and fundamental dishonesty claims.  

James acts for a wide range of insurance companies and his current case load includes severe brain injuries, fatal accidents, amputation claims and psychiatric illness, which attract multi-million pound reserves.

James expertise covers employers liability, public liability and motor claims.

James also supervises a trainee solicitor in the London office.

He is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

Work highlights

  • Rebutted a £6.9m public liability claim with a fundamental dishonesty defence. Agreed settlement at £25,000 – reported in Litigation Futures
  • Handled a claim for damages in excess of £100,000 which was found to be fundamentally dishonest at the Royal Courts of Justice. As a result the defendant was ordered indemnity costs, fully enforceable pursuant to CPR 44.16(1).
  • Negotiated settlement of a severe brain injury at less than half the value as presented (claimed value over £1m). The claim was pursued on the basis the Claimant lacked capacity and required a periodical payment order in light of seizures/epilepsy. Agreed lump sum settlement and mediation.
  • Assisted on UK-USA jurisdiction professional negligence dispute in a claim worth over £15m.
