Laura Monteiro is an associate in the firm’s Miami office, where she focuses on insurance defense of businesses and individuals in personal injury lawsuits involving premises liability and automobile accidents.
Prior to joining Kennedys, Laura worked at a prestigious, well-known plaintiff’s firm in Miami for a little over one year. Laura began her career serving as an Assistant State Attorney for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office for approximately 4 years. During her tenure, Laura prosecuted a litany of crimes, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, and successfully tried dozens of cases to verdict.
Laura earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, where she served as an editor on the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review, in addition to her article being selected for publication: Brazil’s Zika Epidemic and Its Effects on the Criminalization of Abortion. Additionally, Laura was a member of the International Moot Court Board and participated in the International Criminal Court competition.
Laura graduated from the University of Florida, cum laude, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, with a minor in Anthropology.
Laura is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. She was born and raised in Recife, Brazil, but moved to the United Stated with her mother and sister when she was nine-years-old.
