Sam Mason

Sam is a legal director in the London Aviation team and qualified as a solicitor in 2010.

He acts for airlines, airports and handling agents in all aspects of aviation liability and insurance matters. He has particular experience of dealing with claims in Europe and the Middle East as well as a variety of other jurisdictions around the world.

Sam has been involved in handling claims relating to personal injury, baggage and cargo and also has experience of dealing with major losses and subrogated claims. He has acted for airlines in respect of both inquisitions and commercial proceedings in the UK.

This includes dealing with the claims arising out of a helicopter crash in Glasgow in 2013 and an accident to a cargo aircraft in Sweden in 2016. More recently he has been involved in dealing with the claims arising from the loss of an Airbus A321 in Egypt in 2015 and a Boeing 737 in Cuba in 2018.

Sam also handled in excess of 200 claims arising from the destruction of a cargo warehouse in Pakistan following a terrorist attack in 2014.

Before qualifying as a solicitor, Sam worked in the Flight Operations department of a charter airline based in the UK and holds qualifications in aircraft performance.

Sam has presented on subjects relating to aviation and insurance and is the co-author of the aviation chapter in the latest edition of Kennedys’ Claims Handling Law and Practice Guide, which was published in February 2021..
