Annual healthcare seminar programme 2023

How to avoid pressure sores and their claims

This webinar has now taken place.

Kennedys' healthcare team are delighted to be hosting the final session of our annual healthcare seminar programme 2023, which will be held virtually on Wednesday 22 November.

Guest speaker: Ms Michaela Arrowsmith, Lead Nurse for Tissue Viability

Ms Arrowsmith has been a lead nurse in tissue viability since 2000. She was the first in the region, regularly attending national and international events in a speaking capacity and developed an expertise in legal opinion and coroner related cases.

Within her first two years at Royal United Hospital Bath where she is currently positioned, she won the 2015 Nursing Times Award for Patient Safety following a reduction in avoidable category 2 pressure ulcers by 79%. In the years 2017-18, there had been a further 57% reduction of avoidable category 2, 66% reduction in category 3, and no category 4 pressure ulcers for over five hundred days.

In 2017/18, she was also a member of the NHSI England “Stop the Pressure” working group and has been an active member looking at measurement and audit, validation and categorisation of pressure ulcers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Arrowsmith and her team published articles on pressure ulcer prevention patient information and prevention of pressure damage in ITU during proning. She regularly coaches local hospital trusts in prevention and continues to maintain a low prevalence in challenging times.

This session will be chaired by Kennedys' Partner Daniel Freeman.
