Katherine is a special counsel with over twelve years’ experience as a practising solicitor, with a predominant focus on insurance. She was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales and has conducted litigation in multiple jurisdictions within Australia.  

Katherine regularly assists insurers as both defence and coverage counsel, with a primary focus on financial lines and D&O risks. Katherine has a depth of experience in representing professionals, including an extensive background in representing solicitors. Complementing that expertise, Katherine also has been involved in complex commercial litigation.  

Katherine regularly advises insurers in the D&O market in respect of complex coverage disputes as well as acting as monitoring counsel in large scale litigation, including securities class actions, and regulatory investigations.   

Katherine has previously been on the National Committee of APIG and has been part of an organising team behind a national PI and financial lines insurance conference.

  • Advising an international market of insurers of a large bank in relation to a coverage dispute arising out mis-selling of financial products
  • Acting for a large construction company on proceedings in the High Court of Australia concerning the application of proportionate liability in an arbitration
  • Assisting D&O insurers as coverage counsel in respect of regulatory investigations into public companies concerning breaches of continuous disclosure obligations s
  • Acting on instructions from Lawcover and LPLC on various claims against solicitors for breach of duty of care
  • Acting on behalf of other professionals on instruction from insurers, including accountants, architects, geotechnical engineers and health service providers
  • Assisting in a matter on appeal in the Federal Court of Australia in a successful challenge to a denial of cover by a marine insurer on behalf of a mining machinery company
  • Acting for a large Japanese company in respect of a complex commercial dispute involving allegations of shareholder oppression, breach of shareholders agreement and an application to wind up an Australian company
