Last week, over 100 colleagues from Kennedys’ UK Healthcare team took part in their Annual Community Day to help refurbish two wellbeing hubs in Bedfordshire, working in partnership with our UK charity partner, The Children’s Society.
Colleagues from our Birmingham, Cambridge, London, Newcastle and Sheffield offices joined forces, and spent the day painting, organising, cleaning windows and working in the gardens to help spruce up the spaces and make them more welcoming for young people. With teams working across two sites, the work covered both indoor and outdoor areas.
Tasks included painting an entire sports hall, assembling a shed, clearing overgrown gardens, cleaning windows and setting up indoor spaces for young people to use and enjoy. A £3,000 donation by the Firm helped cover materials and equipment. Lunch was provided by a local supplier.
"From its inception, to the actual day, the Healthcare team from Kennedys were absolutely incredible. They worked from the moment they arrived – on what was a really hot day – to the moment they left. It was so evident that they are a tight team and were committed to the day, and to the outcomes their work would provide for young people. With both spaces now decorated and tidy – we know that our service users will feel more valued as members of the community – and will take pride in their building." Jo Goldsmith, Safe Practice Manager, The Children's Society
I felt hugely proud of what we achieved when we all come together as a team with a shared purpose of making a real difference.
The hubs are set to provide a safe space for young people aged 11 to 25 to drop in, take part in a variety of activities, or speak to a member of the team in a in an informal setting. Around 100 service users are expected to benefit from the refurbishment.
"120 of our UK Healthcare team came together from 5 offices across the country for our Annual Community Day to help refurbish vital spaces for children and young adults. We did more than paint walls and build furniture - we created places of safety, fun, hope and potential. I felt hugely proud of what we achieved when we all come together as a team with a shared purpose of making a real difference. We also had fun being together and helping others. Thank you to The Children's Society for giving us this opportunity." Christopher Malla, Partner & Head of Healthcare Division
"There was a real sense of pride, reflected in the fact that the team’s actions aligned with their values and the shared aim of making a visible difference." Carena Fullerton, Senior Associate
“A humbling and energising day, stepping outside our usual roles to make a visible difference. It was a privilege to support a cause that uplifts young people in such a meaningful way” Avinder Sidhu, Partner
The young people we serve will benefit immensely from the improvements, and your contribution has shown them the power of community and generosity in action.
"Thanks to your hard work, the centre’s now feels brighter, more welcoming, and full of renewed energy. The young people we serve will benefit immensely from the improvements, and your contribution has shown them the power of community and generosity in action. I am so grateful to you and your team for your passion for our work." Mark Russell, CEO, The Children's Society
The project was delivered in collaboration with The Children’s Society, Kennedys’ UK charity partner. The two centres supported are part of a national programme designed to offer an innovative approach to wellbeing hubs supporting under-resourced young people - ensuring they can access safe, effective, and compassionate support without the need for a referral.
The initiative also forms part of Kennedys’ Thrive Together volunteer programme – supporting a global goal - to increase volunteering and pro bono activity - and reach thousands of individuals by 2030.
