Bob Meyers is a special counsel in the firm’s Seattle office. Bob has extensive experience representing US and international insurers in complex, high-value insurance matters in Washington State and Oregon, including advising clients about their rights and obligations under insurance policies, bad faith law, and insurance statutes and regulations, and representing insurers in disputes and lawsuits. He has also assisted non-insurance clients with commercial disputes and lawsuits, and contract negotiations.
Bob has experience with a wide variety of insurance coverages and insurance claims, including general liability, intellectual property, advertising injury, bodily injury liability, property damage liability, professional liability, directors and officers liability, errors and omissions liability, media liability, employment practices liability, environmental liability, sexual misconduct liability, homeowners liability, auto liability, fidelity bonds, reinsurance, first-party property, health, excess and umbrella.
Bob also has considerable experience assisting insurance clients in complex multi-jurisdictional disputes and lawsuits, including disputes relating to long-tail insurance claims and disputes involving “lost” policies. He has also assisted clients with claims and disputes that have a nexus to several jurisdictions other than Washington, including claims and disputes that have a nexus to Oregon, California, Hawaii, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Hampshire and Tennessee.
Bob is a thought leader and has been frequently called upon by clients and legal associations to give presentations on Washington insurance bad faith law and other insurance-related topics. Since 2015, Bob has authored several editions of Washington Bad Faith Law at a Glance, arguably the most comprehensive resource on Washington insurance bad faith law.
Several publications have recognized Bob for his legal services. Bob is AV® certified by the Martindale-Hubbell judicial, peer and client review rating system. He has been selected to Super Lawyers for Insurance Coverage and was also selected as a “Rising Star.” Bob has been recognized as a “Top Lawyer” in Seattle Met, and he has earned a “Superb” rating from Avvo.
Bob is originally from Edmonds, Washington and presently resides in Sammamish, Washington with his wife, two young daughters, and two golden retrievers. When not helping clients with their legal needs, he spends his time parenting his daughters and dogs, chipping away at his wife’s honey-do list, traveling to Camano Island, and watching Seattle and University of Washington sports when he gets a chance.

Work highlights
- Obtained a judgment declaring that a liability insurer owed no duty to defend its insured and that the insured must reimburse the liability insurer for defense costs that it had incurred, in a case of apparent first impression under Oregon law.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing under the doctrine of forum non conveniens a lawsuit against a property insurer seeking USD 62.5 million in insurance coverage for alleged business interruption losses arising from COVID-19.
- Obtained an order transferring to a California federal court a lawsuit seeking insurance coverage, asserting extra-contractual claims, and alleging damages totaling more than USD 9 million.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing an auto insurer from an insurance coverage and bad faith lawsuit alleging damages totaling more than USD 1.5 million. Prevailed on appeal.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing a property insurer from a lawsuit seeking insurance coverage, asserting more than 30 extra-contractual claims, and alleging damages totaling more than USD 2.1 million.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing breach of contract claims for which the plaintiff was seeking damages allegedly totaling USD 2.9 million plus 12 percent prejudgment interest.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing an excess liability insurer from a lawsuit seeking insurance coverage for four multi-plaintiff underlying lawsuits seeking damages for bodily injury and property damage resulting from a major landslide.
- Obtained a judgment declaring that an excess liability insurer owed no duty to indemnify a policyholder and had not committed bad faith in an insurance claim in which there had been a demand for the policy’s USD 5 million limit.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing a property insurer from an insurance coverage and bad faith lawsuit seeking extra-contractual damages and insurance coverage for property damage allegedly totaling nearly USD 4 million.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing an excess liability insurer from a lawsuit seeking insurance coverage for 14 underlying lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct in the back of an ambulance.
- Obtained a judgment dismissing a general liability insurer in a multi-million-dollar construction defect coverage and bad faith lawsuit against a Fortune 500 housing developer. Prevailed on appeal.
- Counsel for insurers and alleged insurers of Catholic archdioceses and dioceses, Protestant churches, businesses and youth organizations in insurance claims and lawsuits relating to underlying claims involving allegations of sexual misconduct. Extensive experience with “lost” policy issues in such cases.
