Enrique Avila is a legal director in Kennedys’ Mexico office, where he leads the corporate and commercial team.
With over 25 years of experience, Enrique has provided counsel on a range of matters showcasing significant expertise in cross-border transactions and large-scale commercial and financial operations within the Mexican market. Some of the key areas of his practice include mergers and acquisitions, financial restructuring and financing, private equity, investments, joint ventures, as well as regulatory compliance concerning foreign investment, data privacy and e-business.
Enrique participated in the mentoring program of AbogadasMX, an association created to empower women in the legal services industry.
Enrique has contributed as an author to the Mexico Chapter of the Corporate Governance Global Guide 2020 published by Getting the Deal Through - Lexology, and he also contributed to the Doing Business 2021 - Protecting Minority Investors report published by the World Bank.

- Represented a public Japanese company in its acquisition of an account receivables portfolio in the amount of MXN$1,050,000,000 from a Mexican automobile financing company.
- Represented a UK fund in its US$55M acquisition of a 49% stake of entities developing windfarm projects at Oaxaca, Mexico.
- Assisted the Mexican state-owned oil company in the US$1.2b financial sale and leaseback transactions of 15 infrastructure and production assets located in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Represented a subsidiary of the Mexican state-owned oil company in the US$900m transaction for the sale to US and UK funds of its 45% equity participation in the developers of relevant gas pipeline projects.
- Assisted a Mexican financial restructuring and credit repair business in the investment by a Mexican fund of a minority stake and loan in a combined amount of MXN$453,000,000.
- Represented a group of banking institutions in the granting of a loan in the amount of MXN$536,460,000 for the construction and development of a commercial and residential project located at Sinaloa, Mexico.
