David is a legal director in our London office, having joined Kennedys from another international law firm.

David’s insurance practice encompasses complex matters arising from professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ and financial institutions policies.

For more than 15 years David has specialised in acting for solicitors, advising firms and their professional indemnity insurers in the defence of civil claims, self-reports to the Solicitors Regulation Authority and regulatory investigations and disciplinary proceedings.

David has significant experience of complex, high value and commercially sensitive matters, acting in the defence of Top 50 law firms facing substantial claims, disciplinary and regulatory investigations. He also advises professional indemnity insurers on all aspects of coverage and policy response.

David contributes to Kennedys’ and external publications and gives seminars to clients on a range of topical and legal issues.

David is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) and has been recognised in the Legal 500 (Professional Negligence: London) since 2018.

  • Karis -v- Howard Kennedy [2022] – acting for the solicitor in an £18m commercial property related claim. Claim discontinued during 21 day trial and formally retracted by the claimant in open court.
  • Kamran Naqvi -v- (1) Harris Cartier Limited (In Liquidation) [2019] – acting for the solicitor in successful strike-out of £10m claim concerning allegedly negligent handling of employment tribunal proceedings.
  • Barclay-Watt -v- Alpha Panareti Public Limited – acting for Cypriot solicitors in complex group action brought against multiple defendants. Claims against Cypriot solicitors discontinued with costs paid after jurisdiction and strike-out applications based on abuse of process.
  • Acted for a large US law firm in the defence of a multi-million pound claim brought in the High Court.
  • Acted for the prior practice of an international law firm and its insurers in defence of a complex breach of trust claim brought by a lending institution.
  • Acted for a firm of London solicitors and its insurers in defence of a series of claims brought by an unregulated collective investment scheme.
  • Advised an insurer client on a substantial claim brought under a crime and financial institutions policy in connection with the collapse of an armoured car/cash collection.
  • Acted for an industry-leading firm of development managers and its insurers in defence of a £140 million claim brought by an institutional investor.
