Shaun Metcalfe

Shaun has a wide-ranging practice and advises on all aspects of indemnity and litigation with a particular focus on financial lines and general liability products. He also advises local and international insurers and brokers on policy drafting, policy interpretation for claims under general and life insurers’ policies, and on subrogated recoveries, through all forms of dispute resolution.

Shaun has a well-rounded insight into insurance and dispute resolution. Before joining Kennedys, Shaun worked in claims departments for 2 international insurers, including 6 years as the manager of financial lines and general liability claims. He also worked as in-house counsel for the parent company of a general insurer and a life insurer, for which he provided legal services on all aspects of insurance products and claims, represented insurers in relation to complaints to the Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman and Human Rights Commission, and sat on a life insurance claims committee. This experience gives Shaun a unique understanding of the practical difficulties and commercial pressures insurers and brokers face.

Shaun is a strategic thinker who takes a takes a common sense and commercial approach to advising clients and managing claims to deliver advice that meets their objectives.
