Ingrid Hobbs appointed vice president of London FOIL

Ingrid Hobbs, a partner in our London office, has been confirmed by The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) as the Vice President of London FOIL. She will assume the role of President in October 2019.

The new division of the organisation will support insurance and reinsurance law firms, and their lawyers, working in the London and Lloyd’s market. With an exclusively defendant focused agenda, London FOIL will provide an excellent platform for lobbying, education and networking.

The work of the new division will be delivered through effective processes and practices that FOIL has established over the last 25 years: FOIL London will comprise sector-focused teams – small groups of specialist expert lawyers from different firms collaborating, campaigning, discussing and seeking common solutions to some of the larger thematic issues the industry faces. This could be helping the industry address its modernisation agenda, lobbying on behalf of the industry over Brexit, or teaming up to help the sector tackle the talent and diversity challenges it may face. The thorough industry consultation and modelling that led up to the launch of this new division identified the need for a collective voice on these key issues. London FOIL will develop close relationships with insurance and reinsurance companies and trade bodies, whilst maintaining independent views on how to resolve the challenges facing the London market.

Ingrid, who joined Kennedys in January from Mayer Brown, has worked closely with Lloyd’s, London market, and international insurers and reinsurers since 1994, on complex, high-value disputes (both coverage and defence), including public and product liability risks, tech/media/cyber risks, major casualty losses and significant professional indemnity claims.

Commenting on her appointment as Vice-President, Ingrid said, “I am excited at the opportunities London FOIL will afford the insurance industry, and the lawyers who serve it, to collaborate and strengthen London’s reputation as a first-class jurisdiction for international insurance and dispute resolution.”
