Kennedys advises Clarien Bank Limited on landmark financing for Southampton Princess Hotel renovation

We advised Clarien Bank Limited on the structuring and execution of the financing arrangements for Westend Properties Limited to assist in the renovation of the Southampton Princess Hotel.

Clarien Bank Limited, a prominent financial institution over the past eight decades in Bermuda, services a diverse clientele, including personal, private, commercial and institutional clients.

This transaction was particularly complex due to its size and strategic importance. It represents a significant milestone as the largest single tourism investment in Bermuda's history. The successful financing not only ensures the future of an iconic hotel but also strengthens Bermuda’s broader tourism and hospitality sector, positioning it for long-term growth and sustainability.

It was led by Bermuda partner Simon Benedek and included a number of lawyers in the Kennedys corporate team, including senior associates Nicolas Champ and Ciara Brady and paralegal Chaim Schtroks.

“It was rewarding to collaborate closely with the Clarien Bank team, led by Simon Van de Weg and Roger Brown, on this intricate and highly challenging multi-jurisdictional financing transaction. Their leadership, combined with the team’s dedication and expertise, was instrumental in navigating the complexities of the deal.”
