Following the publication of Chambers Latin America 2024, the firm has received yet another set of impressive results in the latest guide to top law firms and lawyers across the region.
In addition to maintaining our ‘top band’ ranking for ‘Insurance (Peru)’, we have been recognized for our expertise in the insurance market in Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Our Miami team has also received a ‘top band’ ranking for ‘Insurance (International Counsel)’.
A total of 13 Kennedys lawyers have received individual recognition within the Chambers Latin America 2024 guide. This honour spans across all jurisdictions in which Kennedys has an office in Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru.
Latin America and Caribbean Practice, Miami
Foreign Legal Consultant (Not Admitted to Practice Law in Florida) Partner (Qualified in Spain and England & Wales), Alex Guillamont, has been reaffirmed as a ‘Band 1’ lawyer for ‘Insurance (International Counsel)’. He was described by one client as “a fantastic, world-class attorney”. Another client noted: “He is very gifted at understanding the context and big picture of legal actions and claims.”
Foreign Legal Consultant (Not Admitted to Practice Law in Florida) Partner (Qualified in Venezuela), Lorena Avila was recognized for her expertise in handling insurance matters, with one client describing her as “responsive, available, erudite and well versed in jurisdictional rules and law across Latin America."
The team, based in Miami, have climbed the rankings this year and were praised by one source for being “an analytical and professional team who provide the best support in a timely manner.”
Argentina
Based in our Buenos Aries office, Partner Alberto Bunge has been ranked as a Band 3 practitioner for a second consecutive year for ‘Insurance (Argentina)’. He is acknowledged by market commentators for his advice to clients on insurance matters in the region.
Chile
In Chile, we have been reconfirmed as Band 3 for Insurance. Mario Diemoz entered the rankings this year following recognition from clients and market onlookers. One client described him as “proactive and efficient”, while another client celebrated his “sought-after experience” in handling regulatory and contentious work.
Associate-to-watch Daniel Silva, who regularly assists insurers and reinsurers with Chilean insurance regulation, enters the rankings this year. One of his clients compliments him for his “practical, efficient and attentive advice, as well as quick responses."
Colombia
In Colombia, Mónica Tocarruncho Mantilla rises in the rankings this year after receiving high praise from interviewees. One client lauded the Bogotá-based Partner for her “superlative skills in negotiation”, while another stated that "Mónica Tocarruncho Mantilla provides solid client service and is highly recommended as legal counsel, adviser and mediator.”
Partner Catalina Botero has been recognized for the second year in a row, with one interviewee quoting: “Catalina Botero offers a strong service and is very proactive in handling cases."
Mexico
In Mexico, Alberto Torres was highlighted for his expertise on insurance litigation matters. One peer praised him for being “a great litigator and a very effective attorney for large and complex cases."
Further, Michael Hennessy was highlighted for his work advising clients on coverage analyses and insurance litigation. "Michael Hennessy is certainly an excellent head of office” one interviewee said, adding, “he provides an excellent service, always trying to find solutions and alternatives."
Peru
In Peru, the top ranked Band 1 team in Lima was praised for having a “stellar reputation in the Peruvian insurance market.”
Partner Marco Antonio Rivera Noya maintained his ‘Band 1’ ranking, and was praised by sources who underline his knowledge in the field. One client commented: "Marco Antonio Rivera Noya is an expert in the insurance field. His knowledge goes beyond the law, he knows the market very well, and has the ability to solve problems creatively, which brings great value to the table”, while another praised his “great business acumen.”
Fellow Lima-based Partner Fernando Hurtado de Mendoza comes recommended by an interviewee, who reports "Fernando Hurtado de Mendoza is an expert insurance lawyer who always provides accurate legal solutions to the challenges the company faces."
Legal Director Alonso Barreda is highlighted in this year’s guide for being “organised, detail-oriented, and very calm while handling stressful situations.”. The client went on to add: “He is very empathetic and always willing to support his clients."
Senior Associate Noriko Hasegawa continues to handle complex insurance work in Peru, and is commended by one client, who reports: “she is always available, has great field knowledge, and is trustworthy."
