Jonathon Lees - Day in the life

Special Counsel, Sydney

Jonathon Lees is Special Counsel in our Sydney office.

Jonathon Lees Square

I usually have a conference call with an expert witness on one of my files at this time, which I conduct from home before commuting into work.

Morning

I check emails on my phone and my calendar. Then I drop my daughter off at school.

9:30

I usually have a conference call with an expert witness on one of my files at this time, which I conduct from home before commuting into work.

10:00

I arrive at work and attend a weekly internal team meeting on one of my large matters, which is a good opportunity to catch up with colleagues as there are 7 in the team.

Lunch

I have a lunch made at home in the dining area of our Sydney office, overlooking Sydney harbour. I catch up with various staff. It’s a great time to catch-up with colleagues and share our opinions with what is happening in the world! In terms of team building and training, this tends to build resilience while also teaching people how to detect subtle irony. This exercise is all the more effective because I spend most of my week WFH so people don’t really know me that well and are never sure if I’m serious or not.

14:30

I spend time with various junior staff on numerous files, delegating tasks. Typically, this involves preparing action list tables and spreadsheets and planning out the various next stages of litigation.

16:00

I review and settle draft advices and reports and send out emails to clients and opponents.

Evening

I arrive at home in time to help out with dinner and the evening routine for my daughter.
