Kennedys builds on rankings success for insurance in Chambers Latin America 2022

Following the publication of Chambers Latin America 2022, Kennedys has seen some impressive rankings in the latest guide to leading law firms and lawyers across the region.

Along with maintaining for five years in a row now, our ‘top band’ ranking for ‘Insurance (Peru)’, we have again received notable rankings for insurance in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and for 'International Counsel'. 

In addition to the practice area rankings, a number of Kennedys lawyers have received individual rankings and recognition within the guide.

Miami hub for Latin America and the Caribbean

Alex Guillamont, who leads Kennedys’ seven-office, 100-lawyer strong Latin American and Caribbean practice from our Miami hub, has been reconfirmed as a ‘Band 1’ lawyer for ‘Insurance (International Counsel)’. He was applauded for being “a very knowledgeable and influential guy in the region. He is always on top of everything.”

Interviewees also lauded the Miami team's client service, with one source praising Kennedys' footprint in the region and emphasized: "The response time is very good and they are constantly trying to put participants in the market together."

Chile

Partners Mario Diemoz, Radoslav Depolo and Gian Lorenzini, who practice from our Santiago office in Chile were celebrated for being “frequently sought after for [their] experience acting for insurance and reinsurance companies.”

One market insider values that "Kennedys knows the Chilean market and the insurance business", with another in the region adding that Kennedys is "an internationally recognized insurance firm and they have an up-to-date and specialized team in the field."

Colombia

In Colombia, Mónica Tocarruncho Mantilla rises in the rankings this year after receiving ample praise from interviewees. One client described the Bogotá-based partner as "a highly technical lawyer who is capable of communicating complex strategies to her clients,” while another said that "Mónica Tocarruncho Mantilla is an expert insurance lawyer with extensive experience in the sector."

Mexico

In Mexico, Michael Hennessywas highlighted for his role in advising clients on coverage analyses and insurance litigation. One interviewee said "Michael Hennessy is a lawyer with significant technical knowledge of the insurance sphere. His experience is enriched by the practice he has had in other jurisdictions."

Fellow Mexico City partner Alberto Torres entered the rankings this year after garnering praise from market onlookers for his insurance practice. One client described him as "a highly experienced lawyer who has strategic knowledge about how to prevent and resolve disputes."

Peru

In Peru, the team in Lima was praised for having a “stellar reputation in the Peruvian insurance market.”

Partner Marco Antonio Rivera Noyacame highly recommended by interviewees for his expertise in the field, with one client reporting: "He has an outstanding technical knowledge, as well as an excellent commercial awareness." They went on to add that "he is very personable and easy to talk with and his advice is concise, erudite and to the point." A market observer further described him as "an insurance and reinsurance specialist. There are few lawyers in Peru who can handle this market as well as he can."

Partner Fernando Hurtado de Mendozawas praised for offering “a broad experience advising clients on the structuring, implementation and distribution of insurance products in the local market.”

‘Associate-to-Watch’ Alonso Barredawas described as "an expert in insurance claims and is sure about what his clients need," with one interviewee noting that "he offers excellent performance and ensures the firm is at the forefront of the legal market in Peru."

In addition, Noriko Hasegawa, who also achieved the accolade of ‘Associate-to-Watch’ came highly recommended for her "vast experience in the insurance arena." The client went on to add: "When it comes to any regulatory procedure I am sure that Noriko Hasegawa will provide us with the best possible service."
