Jonathan is a Special Counsel in our Sydney office. He holds degrees in Finance, Accounting and Law and he is admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia.

He is a member of Kennedys’ global diversity and inclusion committee and Kennedys’ pro-bono and charity committee.

Outside of Kennedys, Jonathan holds Non-Executive Director and committee advisory roles at not-for-profit organisations in the disability services sector.

Jonathan specialises in the representation of clients in complex and high-value commercial, insurance, director and professional liability disputes and the representation of financial institutions, company directors and professionals in regulatory investigations and examinations.

Jonathan regularly appears in the Federal and Supreme Courts, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and in relation to ASIC and professional standards disciplinary proceedings and examinations.

Work highlights

Some of Jonathan’s current and recent matters include:

  • Representation of a mine owner in relation to a dispute in excess of $200M, in the Supreme Court.
  • Defence of a Corporate Trustee company in a claim in excess of $20M, in the Supreme Court.
  • Defending Directors in insolvent trading claims in excess of $15M, in the Federal Court.
  • Representing Directors and Responsible Managers in the appeal of ASIC banning Orders, in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
  • Acting for Insurers in insurance contract disputes in claims exceeding $100M, in the Supreme Courts and Federal Courts.
  • Defending a range of professionals, including accountants, financial advisors and construction/engineer/design professionals in significant cases in Supreme Courts and Federal Courts (including class-actions).
  • Representing clients in relation to investigations by ASIC, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, Statutory Workplace Authorities, Professional Standards Boards.
  • Regulatory advice and insurance contracts advice to local, Lloyd’s and international insurers.
