Ben is Head of Kennedys’ Corporate and Commercial Division and a member of the firm’s Global Board. He is also the Global Board Sustainability sponsor.
Ben specialises in international arbitration and commercial litigation. He acts for states, international conglomerates, domestic companies, insurers/reinsurers, family offices and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals and their businesses. He has worked on cases at all English court levels, including the Supreme Court, and has conducted arbitrations under a number of different rules.
His focus is on high-value, complex cases with an international or cross-border dimension and matters involving conflicts of laws. Clients typically seek him out for high level, strategic advice on legal and commercial risks well before a dispute arises.
Ben also has particular expertise in life sciences work, representing some of the world’s largest and best-known manufacturers. His work includes the handling of product liability actions and recalls, in particular, coordinating the defence of thousands of mass tort claims across the EMEA region. He also advises a select number of global insurers on complex life-sciences and casualty related policy issues.
Being a fluent German speaker, he frequently appears on behalf of his clients as co-counsel in the courts of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. He also speaks French and Hebrew.
Ben leads the firm’s Israel Desk and was responsible for the firm’s formal association with Israeli law firm Zelichov, Ben-Dan and Co. As of 1 October 2020, all the partners and staff of Zelichov, Ben-Dan & Co have joined Kennedys to create a new Kennedys office in Israel. Offering a one-stop service, Ben and his team will continue to advise the firm’s international clients on legal matters concerning Israel as well as Israeli clients requiring assistance in the UK and other jurisdictions in which Kennedys is active.
