Gender pay gap reporting: new obligations on employers in Ireland
The gender pay gap is the difference in the average hourly wage of male and female employees and is now addressed by the Gender Pay Gap Information Act. The Act and its implementing Regulations have been introduced to address this inequality, and employers are now obliged to monitor and report on the gender pay gap in their organisations.

The new EU Women on Boards Directive could pose a D&O risk for corporates and their insurers
On 22 November 2022, the European Parliament gave its final approval on a new law, known as the ‘Women on Boards Directive’, requiring listed companies implement quotas to increase gender diversity on corporate boards throughout the European Union by 2026. The new rules will require publicly listed companies to disclose the status of their board’s gender balance figures.

Not in this town: The days of the “hired gun” are over
The Irish Court of Appeal has voiced strong criticism of the “hired gun” expert who takes on the role of advocate, and has signalled much tighter control and greater enforcement of the rules relating to expert evidence (Duffy v McGee Insulation Services). The Court also warned that lawyers who call experts who do not comply with their duties to the Court may face adverse consequences in respect of legal costs.
