To pay or not to pay? Responding to ransomware attacks
This webinar has now taken place, but please complete our form if you would like to be sent a copy of the recording.
While much of the world economy slowed during the pandemic, the ransomware industry boomed. Researchers estimate that in 2020 the number of ransomware attacks grew 150% from the previous year, and the total amount paid as ransoms almost quadrupled.
Ransomware attacks and attackers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, often combining ransomware attacks with data exfiltration and other threats, and developing a track record of providing decryption keys to encourage victims to pay up. At the same time, the media are increasingly asking whether it should be illegal for victims to pay ransoms.
In this webinar, special counsel Nicholas Blackmore looks at:
- Current trends in ransomware attacks
- Legal issues arising from ransomware attacks
- What businesses can do to avoid becoming the next victim
