Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) and public trust in healthcare

Kennedys' healthcare team are delighted to be holding the last seminar of our annual 2020 programme which will be held as a webinar.

Guest speaker - Rob Behrens, Chair of the PHSO

Rob Behrens was appointed chair of the PHSO on 6 April 2017.

Rob previously worked on capacity building for the liberation movements in preparation for the post-apartheid civil service in South Africa from 1991-1997. In this role, he briefed the constitutional assembly in Cape Town on public service reform, ran development programmes and contributed to the development of the Ministry of Public Service. He then became director of the cabinet office's international public service group and in 2003 was appointed Secretary to the Committee on Standards in Public Life.

Rob then moved into the ombudsman sector, first as Complaints Commissioner at the Bar Standards Board and then the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) in England and Wales. Rob shortly transformed the OIA into a modern Ombudsman service by focusing on promoting good practice and providing a more efficient and effective service to complainants. He was awarded a CBE in the 2016 New Year's Honours list for his services to higher education.
