Catastrophic injury seminar

Going from bad to worse – UK and US perspectives on psychiatric inflation factors following bodily injury

Our international catastrophic injury group is pleased to be holding a seminar on 16 January 2020. We will be joined by John Gilfillan who is a partner in our Basking Ridge office and will present the comparative US perspective.

Compensators are familiar with psychiatric consequences of bodily injury, such as PTSD or depression. The boundaries are being pushed further by the expansion of traditional diagnostic criteria and the emergence of modern disorders, such as addictions to opioids or gaming. The treatment pathways can be slow and expensive, with corresponding upwards pressure on claim reserves.

Our speakers will cover:

  • New ICD classifications including Complex PTSD
  • Addiction risks following bodily injury
  • US experiences of psychiatric inflation factors
  • Reserve implications
  • Mitigation strategies including rehabilitation

This event is aimed at all claims professionals who might handle psychiatric-related claims.
