Profile

Jamie is a partner based in our Muscat office who is a construction and commercial dispute resolution specialist.

Experienced in both contentious construction and commercial issues, as well as regularly instructed in relation to non-contentious construction matters, Jamie’s practice encompasses the GCC market and wider region. His construction clients are international engineering and construction contractors, international joint venture project companies and local developers and entities. His commercial clients are both GCC based and international.

With extensive alternative dispute resolution (ADR) experience, Jamie has represented clients in arbitrations, mediations, expert determinations and adjudications.

Jamie is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been appointed as an arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations in Oman, the UAE and England. He is also an accredited mediator. He is a board member of the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre and transitional secretary to the CIArb Oman Branch (currently under formation).

  • Acting for a multinational water desalination engineering company before the LCIA in a US$45 million arbitration claim relating to delays, EoT applications, and the validity of liquidated damages provisions under an English law governed EPC contract for the construction of a water desalination plant in Muscat, Oman
  • Providing extensive and timely regulatory and potential litigation advice to the employer of a large electricity power project in Oman arising from serious breaches of Oman Standard Electricity Regulations, breaches of contract and the related power purchase agreement
  • Acting for a sub-contractor in its successful defence of claims for liquidated damages for alleged delay from main contractor and advanced a significant counterclaim for variations and prolongation costs under Emirati law concerning the construction of a secondary school in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi
  • Representing the main contractor in an ICC arbitration claim valued at US$18 million arising from the termination of a civil engineering contract under Omani law as a result of alleged delays to the completion of a water treatment plant in the Oman interior
  • Advising an international water treatment specialist contractor with its claims, valued at US$32 million to be determined by ad-hoc arbitration under Omani law, against a government entity employer for unpaid payment certificates for the upgrade to and development of the main city sewerage system in south Oman
  • Acting for an international large consultancy practice in its claim for unpaid invoices and extensions/variation to the original Omani law contract arising from the overall delays experienced with the completion of the Muscat and Salalah international airports development
  • Advising an international water reverse osmosis and sewerage engineering company in relation to potential disputes arising between its JV partner and government employer concerning the extensive delays to the construction and commissioning of a Sewerage Treatment Plant in Muscat, Oman 
  • Advised a resort developer, as employer, in its valid termination of two major hotel construction contracts successfully guiding it through valid terminations and recovery of bonds
