Laila Abou-Rahme is a Special Counsel in Kennedys’ Sydney Office. Laila is a New South Wales and New York qualified lawyer with over 15 years’ experience in complex commercial litigation and investigations, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in Federal and State Courts in Australia and the United States.

Laila has a breadth of litigation experience which includes class actions, general commercial litigation, internal and regulatory investigations, employment, securities fraud, insurance and insolvency.

Laila counsels and provides legal advice to senior executives and boards of directors regarding a variety of matters, including; employment, regulatory obligations and compliance, corporate policies and financial reporting.

  • Successfully obtained a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in a partnership dispute.
  • Negotiated favourable settlements through mediation with lead plaintiffs on behalf of a financial services institution in a purported consumer class action.

  • Defended global financial institution in securities class action relating to mortgage-backed securities.
  • Advised board of directors of global company on best practices following time-sensitive internal investigation of whistle-blower complaint relating to accounting irregularities and integrity of financial statements.
