Philip qualified in England and Wales with Kennedys in 1990 and has been a Partner in our London office since 1997. Throughout his career, he has focused on financial lines matters. The majority of his practice has involved advising insurers on coverage issues under professional indemnity, financial institutions, directors’ and officers’ (D&O), pension trustee liability and crime policies.

Philip has also acted for professionals, directors and companies in the defence of claims. He regularly manages, monitors and coordinates defences and investigations in various jurisdictions.

Philip’s specialisation in financial lines since qualification gives him a wealth of experience and a real focus on the discipline. He advises companies and syndicates in the London Market and advises frequently in respect of cover to multinational clients. The claims often involve foreign law and jurisdictions and require close liaison with brokers, adjusters and foreign lawyers.

Philip has advised on high profile and high value cases for many years. For example, he advised on D&O cover in connection with a warning notice issued by the pensions regulator seeking a potential contribution of £96 million following a business takeover and also advised on crime cover under policies issued to Russian banks in respect of employee dishonesty claims.

Philip is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL). He regularly lectures to the market and has authored various articles in the press including The Times, Insurance Times, Solicitors Journal, Legal Week and In-House Lawyer.
