Denise is a legal director in Kennedys’ London complex coverage team.  She qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2006.  

Denise is experienced in defending high value property damage, construction and renewable energy claims as well as pursuing subrogated recovery actions. Denise also advises on all aspects of policy coverage including public liability, contractors all risk and potentially fraudulent claims. 

Denise has worked on a number of disputes arising outside the jurisdiction and has extensive experience of mediations and other forms of dispute resolution. 

In addition, Denise has developed a specialty in helping clients face the legal challenges arising from climate change and has written and spoken widely on this subject.

Denise contributed to the writing of Kennedys' 'Global forecast 2024: Evolving insurance risks' report, published in January 2024.

Denise also contributed to the writing of Kennedys' ‘Rewriting the risk: Addressing the challenge of climate change’ report, which was published in July 2022.

She is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

Work highlights

  • Acting for the successful second defendant in the case of Hiscox Insurance Co. Ltd v Quendon Interiors Ltd (1) Mr Ismail Oral (t/a Precious Marble)(2) TP&N Electrical Contractors Ltd (3) (2018) which considered the test for claims in negligence.
  • Acting for the applicant in the matter of Peel Port Shareholder Finance Company Ltd v Dornoch Ltd (2017) which considered the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Act 2010 within the context of a Pre-Action Disclosure Application.
  • Acting for insurers in successfully defending a claim from a policyholder (in Scotland) where the property was destroyed by non-accidental means.
