Profile

Craig is a senior associate based in Kennedys’ London office and specialises in marine insurance and reinsurance, shipping disputes, and marine casualties. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2012.

Craig works in the marine team predominantly representing global (re)insurers and Lloyd’s syndicate underwriters of hull and machinery (H&M), mortgagee’s interest (MI), war, cargo, loss of hire, yacht, charterers’ liability and general liability insurance in complex coverage disputes, as well as liability defence, and subrogation issues. He also acts for shipowners, charterers, and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs in relation to shipping disputes, casualties, collisions, and recovery actions against third parties. Craig’s practice includes the review of policy wordings and providing policy coverage advice. He also advises in relation to issues of jurisdiction, limitation, unseaworthiness, sanctions, and dispute resolution where necessary, both in litigation and (LMAA) arbitration.

Whilst at Kennedys, Craig has been instructed on a number of complex claims, often with an international element, acting for London Market (re)insurers following significant market losses including in relation to piracy and hijacking, vessel fires, detention of a crew for smuggling arms and wreck removals, to advising MI insurers on policy coverage for claims arising out of vessel detainments in South America.

Craig regularly presents and authors articles on recent cases and important updates impacting the marine market. He is also member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL)
