Medea is Senior Associate in Kennedys’ Copenhagen office. She qualified in Denmark in 2001, was admitted to the High Courts of Denmark in 2001 and qualified in England and Wales in 2003 via the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test.

Since qualifying, Medea has worked with the insurance sector, including 8 years as an in-house lawyer in a major Danish insurance company. For the last 10 years, she has worked almost exclusively with professional indemnity claims, D&O claims, Initial Public Offering (IPO) claims and all risk property losses, including recourse claims.

Medea advises on both complex coverage issues and liability issues within her areas of expertise. Medea is an experienced litigator and can act as both coverage counsel and defence counsel. Medea’s client base is a mixture of local and international Insurers as Medea has a detailed understanding of the common law system in the UK and is able to bridge the very different legal traditions between common law and civil law systems

Medea also advises on regulatory compliance, such as the applicability of the Insurance Distribution Directive and GDPR issues related to the insurance industry. She regularly writes newsletters and articles on subjects related to her areas of expertise. Medea is a member of the Danish Law Society and networks such as the International Insurance Law Association (AIDA) and Association for Compensation and Insurance (FEF).

Work highlights

Following the bankruptcy of Gable Insurance AG in Lichtenstein, the Danish insurance distributor Husejernes Forsikring Assurance Agentur ApS went bankrupt in late 2016, affecting around 25,000 homeowners. Husejernes had taken out professional indemnity insurance and Kennedys was retained by the insurer. Medea monitored and reviewed the impacts of the collapse, including advising on the trustee’s findings, media attention, claims handling, new regulations following the collapse, and advice on possible coverage issues.
