Mauricio Carvajal

Mauricio Carvajal Garcia is a partner in our Bogotá office. He is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, with a post-grad in Insurance Law from the same University and an LLM in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton. Mauricio also has a post-grad in Tort and Contracts from the University of Salamanca in Spain. 

Mauricio has experience advising and litigating on shipping, transportation, insurance and casualty, as well he is an arbitrator.

He has experience handling large and complex matters on marine and casualty (liability, bonds and fidelity). On these, he has capabilities in product development, contract analysis, wording writing and analysis, claims handling, subrogation and litigation, working with his clients in maritime, aviation and inland transportation, on cargo, hull and machinery, P&I and passengers matters; as well as in ports, terminals and marinas.

He previously worked at A&A Multinspec, a P&I correspondent for most of the members of the international group in Colombia. During his career, he has been Claims Director at RSA Colombia where he extended his expertise on general insurance such as casualty (bonds and liability), property, engineering and life. Finally, he was the Insurance, Shipping, Transport and Casualty Practice Director at Carvajal Valek Abogados.

Mauricio has international experience. He worked at Clyde & Co (London) on the marine and international trade team. He also led the “Marine Recoveries Working Group” for the Latin America region at RSA.

Finally, he is a Professor on the Commercial Law Post Grad at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, where he teaches Insurance Law and Transportation Law. For this, he is frequently invited to national and international forums on these topics. Also, he has written various articles in Colombian journals on marine insurance.
