Kennedys strengthens its presence in Bristol with new partner promotion
We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new partner as we look to strengthen our presence in Bristol.
Laura Hurst, currently a senior associate in the firm’s London professional liability division, has been promoted to partner as part of a team moving to the West Country capital.
Laura is already familiar with her new home, having lived in the city for years while studying law at the University of the West of England.
She joined Kennedys after qualifying in 2007 and handles a varied caseload from professional indemnity defence (for solicitors, brokers, accountants and financial professionals) to insurance and reinsurance coverage work, generally in the fields of professional indemnity for directors’ and officers’ and financial institutions, often involving international jurisdictions.
I’m really excited to help Kennedys strengthen its presence in the South West and to be moving back to such a fantastic vibrant city, with a thriving insurance market

Laura also said: “Due to lockdown restrictions, the Bristol office has only been operational for a short time so I’m also looking forward to welcoming clients back and helping my colleagues put our new home on the map.”
Commenting on Laura’s appointment, Jeremy Riley, partner and head of Kennedys’ UK professional liability and claims handling groups, said: “I would like to congratulate Laura on her richly-deserved promotion to partner and wish her all the best."
“Laura has excellent connections in the insurance market and with the support of the wider professional liability team, including colleagues in our Taunton office, I am confident she will be a huge asset in growing our business in Bristol.”
Nick Thomas, senior partner at Kennedys, says: "Our growth strategy has always been driven by client demand."
“In the last 18 months alone, which has been a challenging time for all businesses, we have expanded three of our offices in Manchester, Melbourne and Hong Kong and opened a further four new offices in Leeds, San Francisco, Oman and Tel Aviv to support our UK and international clients."
“Having opened our office in Bristol in 2019, I am delighted that we are looking to expand in the South West region with the appointment of Laura.”
The move is in response to demand for services which has seen Kennedys' Taunton office grow to a 60-strong team. It is expected that lawyers based in the West Country will make use of both office spaces as part of the company’s commitment to allowing staff to work more flexibly.
Laura’s appointment also follows a record round of promotions at Kennedys, which saw 86 associates become senior associates and made more than 40 ‘legal directors’ – a new role aimed at creating a stronger career structure for senior lawyers at the firm.
