Maya is a Special Counsel in our Melbourne office. She is an accomplished insurance litigator with 16 years’ experience in health law acting for medical practitioners, allied health professionals and public and private hospitals. Maya provides advice to medical practitioners and hospitals in medical negligence claims, disciplinary proceedings, coronial inquests and investigations by the Health Complaints Commissioner. Maya is also experienced in public liability, personal injury and life insurance litigation.
Maya has experience across a range of medico-legal matters affecting health practitioners and hospitals including privacy breaches, College appeals, medical registration issues and Drugs and Poisons investigations. A significant part of Maya’s practice includes providing advice to doctors before the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Medical Board of Australia with respect to notifications, investigations, Performance and Professional Standards Panel Hearings, the immediate action provisions in the National Law, the health assessment process and registration issues.
Maya has extensive experience in negotiation, mediation and alternative dispute resolution and defends medical negligence claims across all Court jurisdictions and Tribunals.
