Q&A

How has your career grown since starting at Kennedys?

I have been exposed to various opposing counsels, judges, and experts in the field of insurance. The exposure has provided valuable relationships and networking opportunities to develop and gain further exposure to the risk and insurance field. I have gained exposure in environmental claims, mass product liability claims, but also in more specific fields of Bermuda form insurance.

What is your current role?

I am a First-Year Associate in the Basking Ridge office at Kennedys and a part of the Coverage work group.

What does a typical day at Kennedys look like for you?

I will be preparing discovery demands or responses on a matter, drafting a motion or responsive filing, conducting legal research on novel issues, arguing a motion before a judge, or reviewing claim files to assist partners with development of coverage analysis or litigation strategy. There is a high level of collaboration between junior and senior members of the firm on projects.

What is it like working for a global law firm?

It is exceptionally meaningful and provides unique opportunities not available elsewhere. Given Kennedys roots in the UK, there is a significant presence in the London insurance market which provides opportunities for close collaboration with market leaders. Similarly, given the global reach of the firm, there are opportunities to assist partners or other associates both across the United States, but also at times on a global scale. The collaboration and support across the world is invaluable.

What is your favourite thing about working at Kennedys?

I enjoy the independence and trust that is given to junior members of the firm once reliability is shown. This sort of independence is not without support from senior associates and partners. Colleagues make it a point to remain accessible to provide guidance on work-related matters but also on non-work related matters. Kennedys has a strong emphasis on making sure there are non-work related opportunities to interact with peers and colleagues.
