Meet Grace Harriet, member of Women at Kennedys US

We recently spoke to Grace Harriett about our inclusive and supportive working environment and why she joint the Women at Kennedys network.

Kennedys has made strides in promoting diversity within the firm. Can you speak to the role that women in leadership at Kennedys have played in creating an inclusive and supportive environment for junior women attorneys?

I was excited to join a large, international firm such as Kennedys that had clear, actionable goals that directly tie to and support women attorneys. In particular, the promotion of Meg Catalano to global managing partner truly highlights their emphasis on a more inclusive environment. Kennedys also has a strong mentorship program as well as multiple opportunities for women to connect with women in leadership. What I value the most, is that these women in leadership roles reach out and connect the more junior women attorneys to other partners and leadership throughout Kennedys. They are always reaching out to their network to connect you to someone else, whether for a case you might be interested in or for another mentor.

Why did you join the women at Kennedys network?

I joined Women at Kennedys network to be able to meet and work with other women throughout Kennedys. Being able to have the space and ability to connect with women all throughout Kennedys is truly invaluable. I have gotten to hear and learn more from a variety of women in leadership roles and be introduced to other opportunities that I might not have gotten to had I not been able to join the Women at Kennedys network.

What I value the most is that women in leadership roles actively connect junior women to mentors and opportunities.

What advice do you have for women aspiring to become leaders in their legal careers?

To find a work environment that actually walks the talk on creating a supportive and inclusive environment and to find a mentor.

On International Women’s Day, how do you reflect on your journey as a woman in law? Are there any specific moments or milestones in your career that stand out as significant achievements?

What stands out to me most in my career is every single person who has supported me throughout my entire career, starting with an old boss who told me that he thought I would do well in law school, which ended up getting me to apply. To professors who I learned from, in classes and from their careers. To the law school friends that I made in the trenches of classes, exams, and bar study. To the colleagues I’ve met, in particular the women, who I’m thankful are still by my side today.

What's the most memorable concert or live performance you've attended?

Of all the concerts I’ve been to, the one that I consistently refer to is seeing Sara Bareilles ages ago. Her show was simple but beautiful, with mostly just her and her piano.
