Michael Porter

Michael is an Associate in Kennedys Sydney office specialising in complex insurance disputes. He specialises in professional and financial lines and has a broad practice of defence, coverage and recoveries.

Michael has worked for the London insurance market for a number of years and has gained extensive experience across many lines of insurance, including Professional Indemnity, Financial Lines, Warranty and Indemnity and Directors and Officers Insurance.

He has particular experience in advising insurers on complex coverage issues and regularly advises on issues of aggregation, year of account disputes, reinstatement and various exclusions. In particular, Michael has advised insurers on coverage issues arising out of COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war and industry-wide issues in the pension industry.

Michael has undertaken a successful secondment to a leading London Insurer. He was responsible for managing large and SME claims in a lead and follow capacity, often through Lloyds of London syndicates. He has also undertaken a secondment at a multi-national construction company.
