Elyse Grassi
Profile
Elyse is a Senior Associate in Kennedys’ Sydney office with extensive experience in insurance litigation and dispute resolution. She has a diverse workload, spanning through professional indemnity, D&O, first party property claims and class actions.
Elyse has advised on a variety of professional indemnity matters concerning accountants, financial advisors, construction professionals including builders, quantity surveyors, architects and others. She worked with our London team in 2020/21 where she assisted our professional liability team focusing on construction and engineering matters where she gained experience on a number of arbitrations. Elyse is experienced in advising insurers and reinsurers on first party property claims arising from incidents causing major losses including fire and flood.
She has experience advising insurer clients on coverage and defence in class actions including disputes arising from the Royal Commission into Banking. She also has experience advising on defence of large scale litigation including matters arising from the Greensill collapse.

- Greensill litigation – acting for BCC Trade Credit Pty Ltd in multiple proceedings following the collapse of Greensill in respect of subsequent insurance claims.
- Shareholder and securities class actions – advising insurers and reinsurers on policy response to various shareholder and securities class actions including disputes arising from the Royal Commission into Banking.
- Property claims – advising insurers on coverage concerning multi-million dollar property damage claim resulting from a large factory warehouse fire.
- Property claims – advising insurers on coverage and subrogated recovery concerning multi-million dollar property damage claim resulting from flood involving damage caused to specialist, complex machinery.
